The gas cutting device serves the functions of mixing combustible gases with oxygen and supplying a flame for heating the metal to the cutting metal and cutting oxygen.

The design of a gas cutting torch is influenced by:

  • what gas will be used for cutting, acetylene, liquid fuel or substitute gases;
  • how the gas will be mixed - by injection or not;
  • its purpose - special or universal;
  • The cutting type is important—surface, severing, or oxy-fuel. The injector in the torch regulates operation independently of the fuel gas pressure.

Gas cutting torch circuit diagram

The gas cutting torch receives gases, fuel, and oxygen, supplied through hoses. These gases are mixed in the chamber and released into a nozzle, which regulates the gas flow. The fuel gas heats the surface to the desired temperature, after which the supplied oxygen cuts the metal. The torch has two valves that allow you to adjust the mixture composition. The nozzle is made of chrome bronze or copper, ensuring its longevity.

The gas cutting torch's external structure cannot be painted; the gas-carrying tubes are made of brass, copper, and stainless steel. The torch's components are also individually disassemblable, allowing for individual replacements without disturbing others. The control valves rotate moderately, preventing accidental gas flow during operation.

The gas mixture passes through a gap between the inner diameter of the outer nozzle and the inner nozzle; multi-nozzle nozzles are now popular. Oxygen exits through the central hole, and the gas mixture exits through the sides. For cutting oxygen, the hole diameter is 1.2-2 mm. Dozens of different cutting torches are available today, but the principle of the gas cutting torch remains, in theory, unchanged.
