Modern aluminum castings of complex shapes are produced using gravity casting, high-pressure casting, and low-pressure casting. Computer technology allows for casting process simulation and the creation of 3D casting models.

Gravity die casting

Molten metal is poured into a chill mold, where gravity forces it to completely fill the mold. After cooling, the resulting parts are machined.

This method reduces the technological overhead, which is reflected in the cost of the casting. It produces parts with a wide range of parameters, low roughness, and wall thicknesses of ≥ 4 mm.

Low pressure die casting

Under compressed air or gas pressure no more than 0.1 MPa, the liquid aluminum alloy is introduced into the mold and held there until the part hardens. This pressure is then reset, and the workpiece is removed.

The metal flow rate in the mold is controlled by regulating the pressure in the chamber, which improves the quality of thin-walled products.

High pressure die casting

At an operating pressure of ≤ 300 MPa, the mold is filled with melt and the parts harden.

The production process uses hot and cold chamber casting machines.

Among the advantages of this method:

  • obtaining a high-quality surface of the part due to high pressure on the mold after filling;
  • rapid hardening of the casting;
  • the ability to produce thin-walled products by filling the mold in a fraction of a second.

The method is used in the production of parts with a wall thickness of at least 1 mm, ensuring high production profitability and a high-quality casting surface.

Mechanical processing

To obtain products of specified dimensions and configurations, standard and special processing methods are used: drilling, boring, thread cutting, milling, and others.

The use of CNC machines in modern metalworking allows for process improvements and the production of high-quality surface finishes. For example, the machining accuracy of Heckert and GROB equipment is 0.007 mm.
